The NY State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and the NY State Department of Health (NYSDOH) have announced preliminary results of their research into Perfluorinated Compounds in Fish in area waterbodies including Beaver Dam Lake, the main tributary of the lake as well as in the Moodna Creek. Laboratory analysis indicates elevated levels of the chemical PFOS in the fish sampled. As a result, NY State has issued a "catch and release" advisory for recreational fishing to ensure that residents do not consume PFC-contaminated fish. NYSDOH is providing warning signs which will be posted on Beaver Dam Lake District reserves, the Moodna Stream in Cornwall as well as other streams in neighboring areas.

As indicated in previous NYSDOH guidance, recreational swimming and boating are not affected by the levels of PFCs found in the lake water of Beaver Dam Lake.
